The following questions have been posed to
us numerous times.
Hopefully our responses will help you out.
Car Choice
Question:
What kind of cars are they?
Answer: Each car is a full
race, tube chassis. To meet our class rules, the cars must have a stock
front sub-frame. The #9 car is built on a Port City chassis and the #6 is
built on a modified Howe chassis. Each car has a 1999 Ford Taurus aluminum
racing body. Since our team is made of Ford fanatics, everything has to have
the Blue Oval on it!
Question:
Why a Ford Taurus?
Answer: Our team is committed
to excellence. Our sponsors deserve a top quality product that is current
and recognizable. The Ford race car of choice for NASCAR and ASA is the
Taurus.
Engine Choice
Question: Why
two different motors?
Answer : The 351
Cleveland was our race motor from last year. The 351 SVO is a Windsor style
block that we built for the new #9 car. The SVO block is using a two barrel
carb on an aluminum intake and the Cleveland uses a four barrel on a stock,
cast iron intake.
Question: How
do the engines compare?
Answer : The
Cleveland appears to build more top end power while the SVO builds more
torque. The two barrel combination on the SVO is very smooth and doesn’t
give you the rush of the four barrel. Both cars may run two barrels
eventually.
